has original firmware installed. i was too afraid to update on my own after colleague tried to do his with what he downloaded from the internet and ended up bricking his unit. prior to removal from vehicle, my local dealer did not have the software updates to upgrade for me, so it remains on the original software. i have not experienced the bugs/errors people have reported however.

this unit supposedly has been hacked for video in motion, but i have never played dvds on it so i cannot confirm.
