Advice on switching from MFD2 to RNS-510 in a Jetta with Sirius
I have been scanning and searching posts on several sites, however, I have been unable to find a detailed thread of my exact situation.....I don't want to screw anything up. So, a bit of info:
2006 Jetta TDI 5 speed with Pkg 2
Currently has the MFD2 DVD navi unit which came with the car. It came with the 6 disc changer mounted under the center armrest. The sirius tuner is mounted under the back dash in the trunk on the passenger side.
I also have the Hex-CAN-USB cable and current VCDS.
I have ordered and am waiting on the RNS-510 and I am trying to get all the necessary parts and tools in line before I start the install (probably next weekend). So here are some questions I have......
1. Should this essentially be plug and play as I already have a OEM navi unit with a GPS antenna already in place?
2. I ordered a 15 or 20' sirius cable to extend from the trunk to the HU from this site:
http://www.myradiostore.com/p/extens...From=crsl-p2a1
Is this the correct cable? Will it work without the FAKRA connectors? I would have ordered one from OEMPL.US but they are out of stock and MFD3.com is having issues where I can't order.
3. Has anyone run this extension from the trunk to the back of the HU? Any tips on the best route?
4. Will I have to swap any wires in the harness due to the 6 disc changer?
5. I may have missed something....any other modifications I will need to do?
Like I said, I want to gather up everything I need before I start so I'm not stuck. I am also waiting on a set of Hella Euro LED tail lights and the stock fog lights and want to do everything in 1 day.....should be fun.
TIA for any help and sorry if any of this has been discussed multiple times.
