upgrading to rns-510
We just took delivery of our 2009 TDI last week and I already have the bug to upgrade to all the bells and whistles. I am being told by the VW Parts manager that out car has the MDI Harness pre-installed in my car. Could be as I have the aux port in the pocket under the arm rest. I do not have the 6 disk changer in there but do have the in dash 6 disk unit(not the rcd-510). The car is completely factory with the high line red cluster, no blue tooth, has the mfsw but no triptronic shift(would like to add this later also), and the auto 6speed. I know I would like to add the rns-510 and not the newer RNS-310? model as it is not worth all the hassle for what little it has to offer. I am in with quite a few salvage yards and have a couple that I think may have what I need. One has a unit but they say they don't have the codes for it but do have the vin from the car it was removed from. The other yard still has the car but most of the electronics have been removed from that car. What do I need? What car/cars/models can I pull the parts from? Where is the factory nav antenna located at? I'm sure some one will point me to a previous post with some good info. I'm mechanically and electrically inclined just need the info so I know what I need to order and what and where to look for it in the car when I go to tear it apart. On a second note will the wiring be in the car for the blue tooth and where will I find it if it's there? If not, is it a removable harness I can pull from the doner car? I plan on upgrading to the 9w3 module that's hopefully in the doner car. Thanks in advance!! any advice welcome as I am a lifelong GM Truck/Nissan Maxima owner so VW is all new to me.
